Curator Antiquing Gel is a cold patination treatment. Quickly gives an antique look to mild iron, mild steel and brass.
Preparation Before Use
Remove any previous finish or lacquer from your item, as Curator Antiquing Gel is a cold patination treatment that reacts with the surface of the metal. Abrasive pads or ‘0000’ Wire Wool can be used on metals should you wish to give a fine key prior to antiquing. This can give the patina a better surface to attach to.
We advise to use our Cold Patination Pre-Treatment prior to antiquing. The acidic degreasing solution will quickly remove grease, oil and fingerprints from the surface of the metal. This helps to prevent giving a patchy and inconsistent result.
Application
Apply Curator Antiquing Gel direct to a wet surface and leave for 5 – 10 minutes. Wipe with a damp cloth or rinse with water. Repeat the application if the blacking is incomplete or uneven. Always test products first on a spare surface or inconspicuous area to check colour, compatibility and end result. To ensure protection against corrosion, use Curator Protective Oil, a finishing wax or appropriate lacquer.
